The Oceano Dunes are right in our backyard at Nightsky, a unique expanse of massive sand dunes waiting to be explored. Steve’s ATV Rentals has been serving the area since the 1980s, allowing visitors to explore deep into the remote heart of this mesmerizing desert terrain. You will be transported to the Sahara as you ride along ridges across this endless land.
Thousands of years ago, coastal parts of San Luis Obispo looked much more like these dunes than it does today. This stretch of coast, along with others like the dunes in Morro Bay and Montaña de Oro, are remnants of a prehistoric landscape that once defined SLO. During the last Ice Age, the Pacific Coast sat miles offshore from where it is today. This entire area, extending miles inland from our present day shoreline, was covered in rolling dunes. Time has left few traces of this once grand desolate landscape. Oceano Dunes is the most dramatic of them.
